I invite you to join me on a healing journey where every person's unique story, and individual differences are valued and honored. Where I endeavor to create a gentle space where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered as we work together toward positive change. I work with children, teens, adults and parents.
In the most broad terms my approach is a combination of relational, experiential, and strengths based modalities, and is informed by my knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and attachment theory.
In my work with children I tend to employ less talk therapy, and more play therapy as that is how children learn, process feelings and events, and express themselves, and allows each child the freedom to be themselves with me. Just as an adult appreciates being able to speak freely in session to explore and process with a therapist, play therapy allows a child to “play out” freely with a similar level of therapist reflection to promote insight.
If you are the parent of a child client, I will work with you to discover what underlying factors impact your child’s behavior and what it is trying to communicate and support you in your journey to improving insight and understanding, communication, and problem solving within the parent/child relationship. This may involve periodic parent meetings, or a modality that uses more frequent parental involvement in sessions.
Through my training as a child life specialist I am equipped to support children and families with preparing for future hospital experiences or processing prior traumatic hospital experiences, or coping with chronic illness.
In my work with adolescents and adults, I utilize my background knowledge of how early experiences can shape one’s perceptions of who they are and the world they inhabit.
We all have the opportunity to understand ourselves in new ways. To bolster areas of difficulty, and and make the most of our strengths. With everyone I work with, my hope is to provide a safe and supportive relationship, and provide skills and insights that will support you in your current circumstances, and that you can continue to benefit from throughout your life.
